“About a year ago my team and I here in Ecuador made an attempt to rescue a young female White-fronted capuchin monkey from a house in Puyo, Ecuador. In tears, the mother and father of the family explained to us that upon the loss of their youngest child, their daughter had become strongly depressed; coming out of it only once they acquired this monkey -to substitute her lost brother. They asked us for time to slowly separate their “two children”, before handing the monkey in. We accepted to give them time, after explaining how they needed to improve the monkey’s conditions. Unexpectedly, on the 26th December 2009, about a year after our agreement, they contacted me to say that they were ready to give the monkey in. After confirming a space for it at the Merazonia Rescue Centre, me, Glen, and the father and daughter of the local family tracked up to Merazonia to hand in the monkey. The local family members, who were very happy about the set-up and methodology of the Merazonia Rescue Centre, commented: We feel very confident about leaving our monkey in the hands of the workers of this centre. My team and I here in Ecuador congratulate this family for their important contribution towards conservation and their positive change of attitude.” Gloudina Greenacre

“Hace más o menos un año yo y mi equipo aquí en Ecuador hicimos un intento de rescatar a una joven mona capuchino blanco que vivía cautiva en una casa en la ciudad de Puyo, Ecuador. Llorando, los padres de la familia nos explicaron como al morir su hijo menor, su hija cayó en una gran depresión; y no encontraron remedio para curarla hasta que compraron a la mona –quien sustituyó de alguna forma a su hermano perdido. Nos pidieron tiempo para tratar de distanciar a “sus dos hijos”, antes de entregar a la mona. Aceptamos darles un poco de tiempo, con la condición de que debían mejorar las condiciones en las que mantenían a la mona. Inesperadamente el 26 de diciembre 2009, un año después del acuerdo, me contactaron para decir que ya estaban listos para entregar a la mona. Después de confirmar un espacio para el animal en el Centro de Rescate Merazonia, yo, Glen y el padre y la hija de la familia subimos al centro para entregar a la mona. Los miembros de la familia, quienes estaban muy contentos al poder ver las infraestructuras y metodología del centro, comentaron: Nos sentimos seguros de dejar nuestra mona en manos de los trabajadores de este centro. Yo y todo mi equipo felicitamos  a esta familia por su importante aporte a la conservación y su cambio positivo de actitud.” Gloudina Greenacre
