After the rain, no access – Despues de la lluvia, sin acceso

Finally we have found our small piece of forest! The land that we are interested in is situated in a beautiful area very close to the Llanganates National Park, in the Pastaza province, with access on a small dirt road –driving over the Tigre, Alpayacu and Anzu Rivers. To our benefit there are few inhabitants/colonies/large scale farms close-by and to our delight some of our neighbours are active conservationists themselves. Our closest future neighbor in the area is a botanist and member of our team who is currently buying the land directly next to us to develop a forest restoration/reforestation project in which we will all be actively involved. We have already initiated negotiations with the owner of the land and hope to have some substantial news soon! Of course these things take time; and much longer when one of the main bridges to access your land collapses! This happened the other day after some huge storms and this limits our visits to the land, however once the water level is low enough we can access by driving through the river. Once again we want to thank all of our team members, colleagues, friends and family all over the world and especially in Scotland and the UK for all of their support and inspiration since we started planning this new venture.

Finalmente hemos encontrado nuestro pedacito de selva! El terreno que nos interesa  está situado en un sector muy hermoso cercano al Parque Nacional Llanganates, en la provincia de Pastaza, con acceso por una vía secundaria que pasa por encima de los ríos Tigre, Alpayacu y Anzu. Hay pocos habitantes/colonias/granjas grandes en el sector, y de los pocos vecinos que hay algunos ya están involucrados activamente en proyectos y estrategias de conservación –situación que nos beneficia mucho. Nuestra futura vecina más cercana es botánica y miembro de nuestro equipo, y se ha decidido a comprar el terreno contiguo al “nuestro” para desarrollar un proyecto de restauración de bosques/ reforestación en el que también participaremos activamente nosotros. Ya hemos iniciado las negociaciones con el propietario del terreno y esperamos tener noticias pronto! Pero por supuesto es un proceso demoroso, y aun más cuando uno de los puentes de acceso al terreno se hunde! Esto sucedió el otro día después de unas fuertes tormentas y ahora limita nuestras visitas al terreno. No obstante, tan pronto baje el nivel del agua podremos acceder pasando directamente por el rio. Por último queremos agradecer nuevamente a todos los miembros de nuestro equipo, compañeros, amigos y familia en todo el mundo, especialmente en Escocia y el Reino Unido por todo su apoyo e inspiración desde que empezamos esta iniciativa.
