Rescued ocelot cub – Tigrillo bebé

 With assistance from the local Ministerio de Ambiente staff in Puyo and the Environmental Police, we have been able to rescue a parrot, an ocelot cub and an oilbird in the last two weeks. These animals are now in the care of our friends and colleagues at the Merazonia Rescue Centre and they are responding well to their new environment.

We recently presented a report to the Ministerio de Ambiente regarding a large number of endangered animals being held in captivity (as pets mainly) in the town of Puyo. The Ministerio staff are taking the report very seriously and have already taken action to try to recover these animals. It is not an easy task as they do not have the right of entry to take captive animals, and very often they meet with strong resistance from the householders. We are very pleased that the very positive cooperation continues between us.

Con la asistencia del personal del Ministerio del Ambiente de Puyo y las Unidades de Policia del Medio Ambiente, hemos logrado rescatar a una lora, un tigrillo bebé y un guácharo en las últimas semanas. Todos han sido reubicados al Centro de Rescate Merazonia y están respondiendo positivamente a sus tratamientos.

Recientemente presentamos otra denuncia al Ministerio del Ambiente, con una larga lista de animales cautivos en un barrio de Puyo. Los responsables del Ministerio ya han tratado de incautar a estos animales –desgraciadamente aun no está en vigor el sistema de allanamiento, y en muchas ocasiones se encuentran limitados por una fuerte resistencia de parte de los “propietarios”. Estamos muy contentos de que nuestra cooperación con el Ministerio sigue avanzando de forma muy positiva.
